Firstly Id like to look then at Wide Sargasso Sea, a fiction reinvigorated which tells the story of Antoinette Cosway throughout her young and troubled life, from growing up as a colonialists daughter in Jamaica, to her eventual spiral into foolery and death in England. Jean Rhys unusually chose to narrate the novel with two characters, Antoinette in the first and third parts, whilst her husband, who remains unnamed, narrates the support part.
This gives us a view of both peoples version of events, but also allows us to see the West Indian put for the novel through both masculine and feminine eyes.
divide One is seen through Antoinettes eyes and gives us a first glimpse of a feminine young fille who appears very timid and at times frightened by her surroundings. Antoinettes response to finding her mothers horse, which she believes to be lying under a tree is typical of our ideals of how a female would react in such a situation, where sort of of what we assume would be a young males fascination upon discovering a dead animal, she runs away and does not .รข¦speak of it for I belief that if I told no one it might not be true.
