Society needed laborers, hard workers, and that is what children were molded into, which couldnt be done through tender loving care. Instead, the strongest children were desired, weaklings ofttimes murdered as newborns at the judgment of the paterfamilias, who were the masters of the household. Females were frequently such victims because of the way they were viewed in society. For, women were seen as dependents on the men- fathers, husbands, guardians, evidently a woman could not live without them.

Also, women had little freedoms, for example, they couldnt buy or sell property without permission. So it is an indisputable conclusion that the family structure and ways of early Romans does not learn the families of the present, or those to which we are accustomed.
