Disenchanted
The Politics of Experience is assembling of theories and ideas about generate, behavior, and sanity. The book is sometimes abstract, mostly controversial, and always transp atomic number 18nt and thought provoking. Dr. Laing goes to great lengths to prove that not only is the scientific method incapable of measuring the human experience, but our views on practicecy and order within order of magnitude are both violent and destructive; that normalcy is in fact, insanity. In this world, we are groomed into beings that are increasingly led to believe in the material, or external world. Forsaken are thoughts of imagination, fantasy, and freedom. The human experience is constrained and limited by a society that overvalues quantifiable patterns of normal behavior and sanity. When this leads to the human race violently conforming to imaginary standards of behavior, enforced by the collective requisite to witness a sense of belonging, then the masses may be one who display what we know as insanity.



monomania may be our transformation into an actor within society; an adding of layer after layer of make-believe ideas of what others cipher of us, what we think of them, and what others think we think of them, until any remnant of our true experience is buried under a bunch of bullshit. A barbarous circle, that Dr. Laing supposes, can only be broken by a voyage into madness, and the hopeful return as an enlightened being.
In chapter one, Persons and Experience, Laing talks about the disconnection in the scientific community when studying behavior and experience. Behavior being the object glass displays of behavior that we can see and measure from the outside. What cannot be measured from the outside, but is vital to our understanding of human behavior, is the human experience.
