John Mayers Battle Studies album was released in 2009. Consisting of or so of his lesser-known musical pieces, the album is a collection of smooth mushy rock grooves. Though certain tracks pick up in tempo e precise so slightly, the album is never very fast paced at any point. John Mayer creation a solo artist means that he will evermore have the vocal melody. The instrumental melody more time than not is played out by the guitar, whether it be acoustic or electric. The melodys range, both vocal and instrumental, cincture within the same alto/tenor realm close all the counseling through. A few of the guitars give way to the peak and nadir of the melodic range. Even with the electric guitar being featured in more than half of the tracks the albums contour can still be described as smooth. It gives off an easy- tone ending, or mellow vibe.
The drums play a rangy role in this album, along side the guitar. Listening block you can hear the bass, piano, and strings backing the melody. There arent really too many surprises when it comes to instruments. The majority of songs were performed in a major key. Almost every track is homophony, using the guitar as the melody and the previously mentioned instruments as accompaniment.
The album seems to tell a story.



Starting off with a love that seems to be going downhill in nitty-grittybreak Warfare, getting to the material breakup with the track All We Ever Do Is narrate Goodbye, emphasizing how things just cannot work with Half of My Heart, displaying the typical bitterness after a failed relationship in Assassin, expressing the hard road of recovery with War of My heart, ending with the remained desire for that one special person with border of Desire and Friends, Lovers, or Nothing. It is the modern-day American statement of love. Lyrically, this album is no rubics cube, but instead fairly truthful forward in the message that each song is laborious to send.
